Redding California Restaurant Review – Casa Ramos Mexican Restaurant

By : | 0 Comments | On : November 11, 2007 | Category : Restaurant Reviews, Uncategorized

I had to travel to Redding this past week to attend a memorial service of a dear friend’s son.

It was not a happy occasion for sure. As a comfort to my friend, a group of us took her to her favorite Mexican Restaurant called Casa Ramos. As my friend knows good Mexican food (she was one of my father’s best customers), I just knew this was going to be good.

Atmosphere

When you first drive up you get the impression that this is a quality place. It’s very attractive with ample parking. You feel like you are entering a Mexican villa with it’s tile floors and painted murals on the arched walls.

The lighting was good. I didn’t have any problem reading the menu. Now that I need reading glasses, this is important.

Mexican music added to the ambiance. Overall the atmosphere was above average.

Atmosphere: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Service

We arrived around 9pm on a Friday evening and were seated promptly. Our waiter was very friendly and answered all our questions. He had no problem writing us out separate checks which was really nice as some restaurants won’t even consider doing this. He was attentive through out the meal.

Service: 4 out of 5 stars.

Price and Variety

The prices were slightly above average but certainly reasonable. You can find something delicious with their varied dinner menu between $8 and $16. The high end items are the seafood dinners. My vegetable fajitas were $11.25

I have to mention their extensive menu. This was very impressive. Here are some examples: Chicken Mole, Chicken Mazatlan, Carnitas, Molcajete, Flautas, Sopitos, Taquitos Rancheros, Huevos Rancheros, Carne Asada, Chile Colorado, Seafood Chimichanga, Carnitas Uruapan,Chile Verde. Dare I go on?

I haven’t even gotten through half the menu yet. I am embarrassed to say I didn’t know what some of the menu items were. And yes they have basic Mexican dishes, such as enchiladas, tacos, burritos and tamales.

Prices: 3.5 stars out of 5.
Variety: 4.5 stars out 5

Food Quality

The food quality is above average. I ordered vegetable fajitas which arrived to my table sizzling. What a delight. The rice and beans had good flavor.

I tasted the enchilada sauce, which was just average but everything else was very good. I even ordered a Bananaberralada which is a delicious smoothie type of drink, containing a blend of coconut, pineapple, strawberries and bananas.

Food Quality 4.5 stars out of 5. I want to go back and try more of their dishes.

Portions

Portions are large, more than I can eat in one sitting. My meal came on so many plates I thought I would have to move to another table.

The veggies came sizzling on a hot cast iron pan, rice and beans came on another, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream on another, and tortillas on yet another dish. And wow was it tasty.

One of my friends ordered beef sopitos which came on this huge platter with rice and beans. She had so much food left over that it made a great lunch the next day. I think 5 of our group of 10 took some of their food home in a doggie bag.

Portions: 5 out of 5 stars.

Would I Go Back?

Casa Romas is a great place to eat. And yes I would go back. Great atmosphere, excellent service, prices are a little more expensive but the food is worth it. The food has good flavor and you won’t walk out hungry.
